A couple of days ago I was given the book, Secrets of the Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg. Yesterday I began reading it and almost have it finished today….it is fantastic! Truthfully, I was somewhat skeptical when I read the back of the book but it has been extremely helpful and very eye-opening! If you are a first time mom or have a new little one it is highly recommended by me! There is an entire chapter on interpreting your baby’s sounds, cries, movements….what he/she is trying to tell you. (so you dont try to feed him when he really wants a nap). There is also a test you can take to figure out what type of baby you have and then the best way to interact with that type of baby. Did you know that if your baby yawns it means you need to go put him down? By the third yawn you have missed the warning signs of being over-tired and you can expect a meltdown. Once you have missed it and they meltdown it is extremely hard to get them calm and asleep. Well, I realized we had been missing these! Tonight Aiden yawned before his usual bedtime so I immediately put him in his bassinet, turned off all of the lights (I normally keep lights and sounds on so he wont be lonely but after reading learned this makes them even more frustrated) and literally within minutes he was sound asleep….not a peep! He is still sleeping, no fussytime! (crossing my fingers). So we are going to try putting him down at 8 from now on to see if this helps. Also, Chris and I have been very laid back about the exact time of our night schedule (letting people stop by close to bedtime, going out and doing things) and the book talks about how important it is to not do that while establishing this night routine….this is hard for us because for the most part we are extremely laid back. Also, after taking the test I learned that Aiden is a mix between an “angel” and a “textbook baby”. (The options are angel, textbook, touchy, spirited and grumpy.) On a different note Aiden went to the park tonight for the first time in his baby jogger (not the snap n go). He is such a sweet, precious boy….we are so proud of him :).
Thanks for the book recommendation! I'm glad that it was so helpful. What kind of baby jogger did you get? I'm looking for one.
