mama advice

Let’s have some mama talk…
Aidens second birthday is approaching and that is when we had anticipated saying goodbye to the paci. Even the thought of it makes me a little nervous because he really really loves his paci (and the clip which is so funny…. He doesn’t want a paci that isnt attached to the clip).
Any good ideas?!

  1. Good luck! We started eliminating our kids' pacis around that time, one by one. When Annabella, we took her to the Build a Bear Factory and had them stuff the paci inside a new Build a Bear. It was a good idea in theory that had been passed along to us, but I think she was a little young to really get it. When Callum was down to one paci, we cut a hole in the tip so it lost its "suck" and then he slowly lost interest. With both, the whole thing was not really as bad as we anticipated and it was over in a few days. One thing to remember, I think our fear as parents of giving up the paci is almost worse than actually doing it. It will all work out whatever you decide.

  2. My aunt bought a bunch of helium balloons, tied the paci's to them, and told her son that they were sending them to the angels. He let them go, waved goodbye, and he seemed to understand that they were gone for good!

  3. Girl!! I wish I had some fabulous advice to give you on this. I told myself when Ky turned 18 mo. we would get rid of all the binkies and I just couldn't do it! But, when she turned 19 months, I somehow convinced myself to get rid of all the binkies and that night, homegirl STARTED SUCKING HER THUMB!!!

  4. April Seeds says:

We sent ours to the "paci fairy." She takes the paci to babies and leaves something "cool" for big kids. My son was given a panda bear that he still sleeps with now…he is 7. Good Luck!

  5. Amy Marable says:

i need help too Casey! EK loves her paci and now with molly using one I feel like it's going to be really hard to get rid of b/c she will just use molly's instead!

  6. Look that that cuteness! Who cares about the paci! No, I know it must be hard. We have a thumb sucker so I am at a loss. I heart the paci fairy works 🙂

  7. pakosta says:

my daughter had hers until she was 3 years and 4 months old! no advice here! I took her to the dentist and he told her to say GOODBYE to them! she did it with NOT one problem and she was ADDICTED! she always had one in her mouth and one in each hand LOL! tara

  8. i have to weigh in here. i took my daughter's away at 2. it is one of my biggest regrets, seriously. i was too rigid with her b/c she was my first and she still really needed them. i thought she was agreeing, but didn't realize she didnt understand. we gifted her pacis to a friend with a new baby. then they were gone and she was devastated. she didn't sleep for 10 days straight. zero naps. but i was fixed on my ideas, not her needs, and wouldn't give in. i was not about to make the same mistake with my son…he had his until he was in his 4's sometime. they stayed in his bed, but i didn't make him grow up too fast. then he was old enough to make a deal with me when the day came to throw them out. he happily traded for a new stuffed animal and blankie. comfort for comfort. just my 2 cents. i know every child is different, and that its sooo hard not to rush your first born. you think they're sooo big! i say just limit it to bedtimes or sickness and don't worry about it! or at least wait until he's big enough to reason with him about it.
