I have a few things this week for “on your heart” link.up.
If you are new here I would love for you to link up!
Just link a post about something that is on your heart, it can be something light & fun or something heavy and vulnerable.

Comparisons can be nasty.
Nasty for everyone involved. Nasty for those you are comparing yourself to, because remember…we never really know what someone is going through, nasty for yourself….let’s be honest it never leads to good places & nasty if you are comparing someone you love to someone else.

For example: birthdays, anniversary, mother’s day…there really aren’t a TON of these “special” days and it can be nasty when you bring blogs, facebook & twitter into the mix.

“Oh wow, Suzie’s kids gave her breakfast in bed, a canoe ride, surprise hotel stay and a limo ride home…..her family must really love her, she must be a mom/ a wife that is WORTHY of those things.”

or this one…

“Wow, Lucy’s boyfriend is really crazy about her. He goes above & beyond for her constantly. She must have something I don’t.”

Sound Familiar?

bleh. blech.

Who wants to be around someone like that? But how many of us can relate?

Isn’t it a choice?
Can’t we choose to be happy? (I am talking to myself too)
Choose to not play the comparison game.
Choose to celebrate our friend’s blessings & embrace other’s successes?

can we be honest about the yuck in our hearts.

Not everyone can love us and appreciate us just exactly the way we need. We can’t expect people to. That just drives them away anyway.

So lets stop feeling sorry for ourselves, lets change our ways, lets embrace & celebrate, lets be thankful in all things.

You know what I want my husband, kids and friends to say about me?

“I want to be like the Jesus I see in her.”

Can I do that when I am down? Putting myself down? Comparing?

Nope.

“Our responsibility (as salt) is to make men & women thirsty (for God) because of our lives.”

Are you making people thirsty?
 Or are you threatened? Jealous?
Yucky heart stuff here.

Obedience is tough.

Also, I have been thinking all week about the fruit of the spirit. It gets so watered down over the years.
Am I really LIVING these daily, in ALL I say, in ALL I do?
read them slow….

At the beginning of the year I chose the word PEACE. This is what I wrote…

PEACE

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9

My all time favorite book, “A Beautiful Offering” has a chapter on peace…

“When you decide to live out what you believe. When you decide you want peace in your possession, then you will find out what that looks like & feels like. You begin to pray for God to give you peace. You incorporate peace in your relationships. You decide to respond differently. You speak in love. Act in tenderness. You imitate what you know about peace until it becomes a reality for your character & your life.”

It is so convicting. Dying to your desire. Dying to your flesh.

“He restores what has been broken & heals what has been wounded. I don’t have peace because I figured it all out. I have peace because I believe in Christ.”

I love the idea of imitating what I want to be until one day it just becomes who I truly am. I desire for God to give me peace that passes all understanding. I want a God-given peace that comes from Him living within me. I want to respond differently.

Wouldn’t the greatest honor of all to be told ” You must belong to Jesus, I see Jesus in you.”
And most of all by the people that live with you, the ones who see the yuckiest of you.

Every morning of 2011, I desire to wake up & pray for peace. And hopefully along the way my imitation will become a reality.

I want a lovely, peaceful offering to all that know me.

tell me what is on your heart?

I totally love what you said about celebrating others victories. We should all embrace and enjoy the good things loved ones around us are going through. Every one life is different and that's OK. 🙂

  2. Mama Jill says:

I am actually a new follower and while I read this I started crying…. ugh.. I have been super emotional lately but this has been a HUGE weight on my shoulder.. I would go on and on… but I would bore you. I am so thankful that you did this post. Thanks! Really love your blog.:-)

  3. Danielle says:

I totally see Jesus in you Casey. Thanks for sharing your heart and giving us something to think about. 🙂

  4. Amy Sullivan says:

    Casey,
First off, what a great place. Your pics are amazing, and I love the feel of your blog.

My fave line from your post is this "I love the idea of imitating what I want to be until one day it just becomes who I truly am." I know I'm not where I want to be, but I'm striving to imitate it the best I can.

It's my first time linking-up, so I can't wait to check out some of the other voices that hang out here.

  5. Alyssa Rae says:

There is absolutely no doubt that I look at you and see Jesus. And I say that not for your person gratification but because its the truth. You are physically a beautful person (is that weird for me to say? no? okay) but beauty is passing. YOUR HEART makes you one of the most beautiful women I've "met". Your faith shows that you are strong by being weak for the Lord. I am proud to call you a friend, and I know that our Father is proud of the the daughter He has, even if she struggles at times.
    xoxo

  6. Rissy says:

I am such a victim of the comparison game….

I have a great life for the most part, and honestly always have. Yet, I always seem to want something else… something someone else has.

I think I do it a lot with blogger and facebook too : /

I'm really glad you posted this. It's spot on.

  7. ugg girl you have no idea how much i needed this…I have been fighting the urge to compare myself to others the past few days…i got a big no from faithblogs and I heard some girls going to blog sugar are getting together beforehand and having big time fun…i have been feeling not christian OR cool enough…blah…thank you for this post friend…i DO feel better!!

    xoxo….for reals!

  8. myriahmae says:

YOU Are AMAZING!! I have been wicked convicted this week about stuff too. Love this post really makes us think. But I do see a wonderful woman of God in you, by the way…thanks for posting these encouraging words we all need.

  9. Alyss says:

Amen! Comparisons make you see the worst in yourself AND consequently, other people. It's a shame to not see the preciousness of who God has created you to be. You rock Casey. xoxo

  10. Love your wisdom, friend!

  11. Megan says:

Oh wow, just stumbled onto your blog and I'm in love. With y'all, with the look, with your words, with your heart. ALL OF IT!! I love this post. It's so true that sometimes we compare ourselves and our lives/marriages/kids to others. I definitely see Jesus through you and it makes me SO happy!!

  12. Kendal says:

first time here…love it. letting go of comparisons? best.thing.i.ever.did.

  13. stephanie says:

wow. this is just full of wisdom nuggets. love.

  14. Breeann says:

I love this. I do that a lot…especially when it comes to the whole baby making arena. I don't want to compare myself to all the fertile myrtles out there…but I find myself doing it sometimes. And yet, some of my favorite blogs that I follow are of women with babies on the way, new babies, or other beautiful children of their own. I think it's God's way of healing my heart…because I truly love reading about all the beautiful littles that others have.

  15. Marie says:

Man girl, you hit this one on the nail for me…..I often find myself edging towards making comparisons and then need something like this post to bring me back. 🙂

  16. Beautiful post… it always feels so healing to pour it out before Him!

I am so excited to link up this week. Thank you for hosting!

  17. LOVE the new button and LOVE LOVE LOVE you, friend! I see Jesus in YOU! 😉 AND I totally LOVE what you spoke about here! You are AMAZING!

  18. sarah beth says:

i needed to read these words tonight. i've been fighting with comparison my whole life, and the battle's gotten pretty ugly the last year or so.

"i love the idea of imitating what i want to be until one day it just becomes who i truly am."

those words are HOPE to me. i CAN change. HE will change me. i don't have to give in to the habits and patterns in me, but i can pray and ask for NEW and holy ones.

    thank you, casey, again!

  19. Anonymous says:

    This is so good Casey.
The comparison part really hit me.
It identified some yuck in my heart!
    Thank you xxx

  20. katie says:

Yes, the comparison game just gets nasty. It is not good for any of us. I often need to get real with God and refocus on who He wants me to be instead of me concentrating on who I think I should be or on who I think others want me to be. Love you blog and your heart, Girl!

  21. Jami says:

linked up girl! Just another day where you hit it out of the park! kisses!

  22. wonderful and thought provoking-thanks, casey! xo

  23. From Tracie says:

Comparisons really are nasty…and no one ever wins.

Your words about peace – so beautiful and so convicting (in such a good way). Thank you.

(I love your fruit of the spirit graphic!)

  24. Great post Casey. And so true. I blogged about fear. Which can go hand in hand with alot of this.
    xo,
    Sarah

  25. cami says:

"I want to be like the Jesus I see in her." …. YES!!! This is what I want!!!! I also LOVED the "He restores what has been broken & heals what has been wounded. I don't have peace because I figured it all out. I have peace because I believe in Christ."

GREAT post. Thank you for the beautiful reminder of what it's all about. I've been working on it, but can always use the extra nudge.

  26. theolivetree says:

lovley post…I did a mother's day post and this made me smile.

  27. theolivetree says:

p.s. here is one of my favorites… " And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. " Philippians 4:7

  28. You are beautiful.

  29. Kelly says:
