where we are going.

( a few first peeks into our new space)

So many people have been curious where are we going?! Our house lists after next week and we wanted to be out before it goes on the market. It was already emotional to leave and so we thought it would ease that a bit if we could get out on our own timing and list it, that way when it sells it has a little less sting to it ;).

We are moving to a smaller (to me) town about 25 minutes outside of Dallas... we are downsizing and taking a season to live more simply. We are leaving the heart of downtown Dallas and heading out! Simple in the sense, we are away from the fast pace of living in a big city, we donated trailer loads of our stuff, we have less room. less stuff. We want to grow gardens and live with adventure and have come to the conclusion that this is a good step for a short season of that. We are moving from downtown in the city, out where there is more land. All our sweet pets are coming along of course! I already have big plans for gardens, a bigger coop and a Koi pond for Aiden. Lots of fun projects!

This will be a time where we can pay off the rest of the student loans, we can save for our dream home/forever home, we can do more. Aiden is enrolled in an amazing private school in Dallas for Kindergarten in the fall and we will just commute in for this year for those few days (it is not a full week program).

We figure if there is ever a year to do this, this is it!

We leave Monday for the beach and my brother's wedding! I have some posts scheduled and will be posting pics along the way on instagram!

  5. Congratulations on your move to the land! My husband and I had a small homestead in Utah for about a year, before moving to Texas last year. And now our sole goal is to get back to homesteading and a more self sustaining lifestyle, it was and will be again the best thing we've ever done for our family! Good luck!

  8. Casey- thank you for sharing. For a year, God has been stirring our hearts to "go small" in order to live more fully. This is happening while we are looking to grow our family and most people we talk to call us crazy. I'm glad we aren't the only ones seeing value in downsizing stuff to be free for His work.

  11. Oh my gosh this sounds incredible. I find myself longing for less lately also... in the sense that I want to get away from this fast pace lifestyle of living in the city... surround our little family with more pets and gardens, and just more nature. I miss it, it's where I grew up!

Excited for this new adventure for you and your family! xo

  13. Sounds great! Downsizing is always good. It's amazing how once we try, we can usually live on a lot less than we have. We have to do this because of traveling between the two countries, but I love it!

  14. What an exciting new adventure for your family! My husband and I have been discussing moving further away from the city and downsizing as well. We are craving a safer space for our child to grow and more open space for family experiences. I cannot wait to follow along with the Wiegand's journey. Love your blog Casey!

  17. Ah ...
Congrats. Starting over is sometimes a lot of fun.

I just did the same. Well - almost same. I sold and gave away everything we owned. And moved across the country with just my daughter and our clothes. We are now in the process of moving in + get hold of things we need for the new place! And we are having so much fun with it.

Your place looks great. Can't wait to see more in time.

Have a great beachday, and wedding

    xx

  21. Our family is in the process of majorly downsizing to an apartment in a Victorian house. It's been good to realize no I DON'T need this much tupperware and this many purses! Good luck settling in!

  22. Love the new space and your new mindset. We did this four years ago and haven't regretted it a second. Leaving behind the big city and crossing the country for life in a little mountain town has given us the room to breathe and enjoy life with our little ones. Simplicity merely makes room for what matters most.
Sending you love and prayers in your new life.
