The Testing.

First of all I want to thank you so much for the overwhelming amount of love when we shared such vulnerable news this week. It was such a reminder for me that even when it feels really scary to hit “publish”, its so beautiful to invite people in on the journey.

I felt so lifted up and loved and cried reading through each person’s story and words in the comments on instagram and Facebook. I really wanted to share some of the medical side of this in case it could help even just one person. I am not a doctor or trained in this in any way, just simply sharing our experience and what we have learned along the way.

After our third miscarriage we decided to pursue testing and answers. It felt like the right thing to do to take a step back and seek out what was going on. We first got back our tests from our D&C and were able to see that our baby boy had nothing wrong with him, there were no problems so that narrowed it down a bit. The next step was a full panel of bloodwork through my OB. I got the call a few weeks later and she said that the testing showed I couldn’t metabolize Folic Acid. Well a lightbulb went off in my mind.

Let me backtrack a bit. I never in a million years ever ever ever thought I would have been led down the path that I have been but I can say I am 100%%% sure that God was in it every step. After my second miscarriage I was desperate for something to help support my anxiety and my hormones after that second loss. I remember as clear as day being at 4th of July with my sweet family watching fireworks knowing in my heart something was off. I text my dearest friend and she led me down the path of oils. Well in my oils group I was being exposed to all kinds of things I had never in my life heard of before, so the researching and life changing began.

I remembered when she said that about the Folic Acid reading in one of those groups about MTHFR- so I went back and started researching. I reached out to my other sweet friend Courtney who I trust so very dearly and she led me to a Holistic doc in Dallas. I met with him and not only did my OB fax over my full panel of bloodwork results but he was willing to do Genetic Testing to take the answers a bit further.

( I hadn’t planned on sharing his info but he does do phone consultations and has links on his site to the Genetic tests so here is his link).

I found out through the Genetic testing that I have a double strand of the MTHFR A1298C mutation.

It turns out MTHFR is a real stink!

There are various strands- the MTHFR A1298C and the MTHFR C677t mutation.
Some people have one strand of one, some people have a double strand of one ( like me), some have one of each…the list goes on.

Here are two great articles I have saved on MTHFR:
here and here

Turns out it leads to all kinds of problems….miscarriage being one of them.
And unfortunately a lot of doctors don’t test for it.

I have been sooooo so forever grateful to my sweet OB and this Holistic doc for working so hard to help me seek out these answers.

So we decided to take a year to focus on this. I started on Folate and Methyfolate through my Holistic doc/chiro. We trashed all the toxins in our home, we changed the way we ate, we literally transformed our life.

Then once I got the positive pregnancy test, not only did I stay on the methyfolate and the folate but was given a special prenatal through my holistic doc (again with folate) in it, I was also put on baby aspirin and progesterone.

I also will meet with a hematologist next week to take a look at everything.
A lot of people with a double strand are placed on Lovenox
but because 1. my strand was not the C677t and
2. paired with the fact that I have a history of early deliveries and C-sections we believed the right decision for me personally would be to try this “cocktail”.
We will see the hematologist next week to make sure he too agrees moving forward.

Another interesting piece to this puzzle was that our second loss had tiny pockets around its lungs in the very first sonogram. Looking backwards through my researching this in many ways pointed to a Folate deficiency which would make sense with my diagnosis.

Anyways, there are still risks.
We are still timid yet hopeful knowing so much more walking in this time around and feel so well taken care of by such precious doctors.

I generally leave comments closed now but will leave them open on this post in case anyone has specific questions or experiences

  1. Bless you, Casey for being so vulnerable. I know your story will help so many others. Praying for you and your sweet family.

  2. Shellie says:

I found out I had MTHFR years ago and at that time was told the chances of carrying a baby to full term were slim to none. Fast forward 6 yrs to current day and I found out 3 months ago after 3 miscarriages that I also have Factor V. As heartbreaking as the news was, it was so gratifying to have actual answers!!! And my new OB also relayed that the medical grade Folic acid makes my MTHFR not an issue anymore! I am now taking Methyfolate and folate as well as a baby aspirin as well. I know God has walked before us and knows what will happen next as well. We are the proud parents of 4 adopted boys but know that with the answers we have about everything if He wants to create a little miracle, we are ready to walk down that path with open arms as well. Praise God for amazing doctors! On another note, what oils are you using during this pregnancy? I'm so happy for you Casey and will be praying for you, believing He has gone before with this previous life you carry.

I believe In sharing as well. I had 1 healthy baby and then 2 miscarriages. I was never given any real
reason for the miscarriages, as this happened in 1993. But I did learn that Progesterone in suppository form sustained my pregnancy the 3rd time. I had to take it daily for 13 weeks. I had a healthy baby boy. Thanks for sharing your painful journey! I'll be praying for you, your husband and baby 😊

  4. Thanks for sharing Casey! I like you, was diagnosed with MTHFR after our third m/c in a row, before we had our first. When I was pregnant for the 4th time I was put on baby aspirin, progesterone, folic acid and prednisone. The baby aspirin and folic acid for the MTHFR. I never had another m/c after that thank God. We carried our babies full term, complication free. My regular doc didn't test for it, we had to go to a fertility specialist. I had never heard of it before then. Prayers for a healthy pregnancy and congratulation again on your double rainbow baby.

I have this same mutation and struggle with anxiety. I have had 2 healthy pregnancies but have struggled with anxiety since i was really small. Being on a methylated folic acid has helped immensely. I also had cholestasis of pregnancy with my 1st (its a liver disorder specific to pregnancy). I did a lot of all natural liver detox's (lots of beets) with my 2nd pregnancy and never developed it. It is linked to fetal lose and early delivery. Just wanted to pass that on. :-)Prayers for your growing babe.

yes! i have often wondered now looking back if this is why we had 3 early deliveries. thank you so so much for your prayers, it means the world. also isn't it amazing how much of a difference the methyfolate makes?!

  7. Cayden says:

I am happy to to have the opportunity to be able to reach out as one of your readers and say thank you for sharing your story.

  8. Annonymous says:

I also have the MTFR gene mutation. I have A1298C and my doctor just put me on a folate supplement. What is the difference between methylfolate, folate and folic acid? I am trying to do my own research but it's hard to find info on this! Thanks for sharing. It's amazing how many people really do struggle with this!

  9. Tamara says:

I didn't realize how common this is! I have met several ladies that have this same mutation. I found out last year that I have the MTHFR double mutation along with a PAI double mutation. I ended up in the ER with extreme pain in my side, thinking my appendix was ruptured. They ended up finding a blood clot above my right ovary. After lots blood work, the 2 mutations were found. My doctors were very surprised that I have had a successful pregnancy in the past with no losses. I was told that 1. I should have never been able to get pregnant with my daughter without the help of medication and doctors. 2. It was not a good idea for me to have anymore kids. They said it wasn't impossible, but not recommended. We didn't have plans to grow our family anymore, but all of a sudden I felt very angry that it was no longer my choice. I know God uses all things for His glory. He will use this too.

  10. Lesya Savich says:

Casey, thank you so much for sharing your story! Do you mind telling me the name of the prenatal vitamins you are taking! Thank you so much!

  11. KT says:

Hey sweet Casey! I too have MTHFR! I had a miscarriage and then dally was born with an omphalocele which are both possible issues with MTHFR and pregnancy. Finding a good doc is key! I will be praying for that little baby! I am so excited you found a great doc! I am still on the search for the right doc! I may give yours a call!!! Thanks so much for sharing and opening a new door of help to me!!!!

  12. You are amazing! So good at being in tune with your body and researching! I'm not sure I would have had the will to do that after all you went through and I only had one miscarriage! You inspire me!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Praying for you!!

  13. Unknown says:

Thank you for the ways you've used your life to bless and encourage us all. Praying for God's continued peace and protection over you and your family.

  14. SADIE says:

Thank you for sharing. I too have read over and over again your posts about your losses. I have lost three babies myself and am about to be tested to see if I have the same thing. Praying you will get your double rainbow. Thanks again for sharing your story.

  15. MTHFR runs in my family. I have not been tested yet but had a miscarriage the end of last year. So thankful for your transparency in this. I have been anxious about what may have gone wrong but doctors are not interested in testing after only one. Thank you for this information! I will be seeking a good holistic doc with some insight on this. I am praying for you and that sweet babe!

  16. Robin says:

Perfect timing. I have been looking into getting tests for this mutation due to an early loss and a second trimester loss before having my now 10 month old son. Thank you so much for sharing. You've given me the push to get answers! God is good!

Hi Casey! I have been reading your blog for quite some time now and I think you are a beautiful writer and that God so knew what he was doing when he made you a mother. I just wanted to congratulate you on your new baby and I will be praying for you and your beautiful family. Keep writing forever. Xx

  21. Carey King says:

I think its so amazing women are finally sharing about miscarriages, I've had friends and family have miscarriages and honestly most of the time the doctors don't care. I've heard some really horrible stories and its so nice to hear someone not be defeated but find answers. We are currently trying for our second and its amazing to walk this journey with other moms. Will be praying for your little one and continued peace for you.

  22. A Bit Of STK says:

After three years with a fertility specialist, 4 iuis, 2 miscarriages…finally testing was done. I had mthfr, pai-1, and a lupus anti coagulant. I was put on folate rx, lovenox, baby aspirin, and metformin with progesterone oil shots for 14 weeks. It finally seemed to work and currently at 27 weeks. Definitely a scary journey and fear of complications or early delivery. I pray and wish you well with this pregnancy!!

  23. Casey, bless you for your openness and vulnerability, for your kind heart and genuine nature, and above all, bless you and your sweet family. Without going into great details of the past, I have you and your beautiful blog stories to thank for encouraging me to open my heart to God and to start down on my own spiritual path to salvation. You are an inspiring woman and I will be praying for you, your family and that sweet little life within you. All the best xox

thank you so much for sharing your story. we have a perfect 2 and a half year boy and have struggled over the past six months losing two babies: both around 8 weeks. I just had my last D&C two days ago. It is such a sad and confusing time. especially because we have a healthy child. I will begin seeing a reproductive endocrinologist in a few weeks and just pray we will get some answers soon and be on our way to holding another baby in our arms soon.

    • CaseyWiegand says:

oh I'm praying so much for you, I am so so sorry for you losses :(, It was so confusing to me too since I had three kiddos on nothing but grateful we did pursue answers now on this side! sending all my love your way!

thank you so much for sharing your story. it will certainly help someone and maybe that someone will be me. my husband and I have a perfect two and a half year old baby boy. over the past six months we've lost two babies in a row. both times their heart stopped beating around 8 weeks. it is such a sad and confusing time- especially because my pregnancy with my son was seamless. I just had my last D&C two days ago. we are desperate for answers and will begin seeing a reproductive endocrinologist in a month or so to begin testing and evaluation. I will keep your diagnosis in mind when speaking with our new RE. I cannot wait for the day that we hold another baby in our arms. praying for you and your family as well as all the other families struggling with infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss. xoxo

  26. Hi Casey!
When I saw your pregnancy post and you said you were going to share some medical news I knew this is what it was going to be. My husband and I tried for three years to get pregnant we also had a miscarriage two actually. We finally got all the fertility testing done and by the grace of God since I already had two miscarriages they tested me for MTHFR. One of my friends has this and her daughter has the double copy so I was familiar with it. I went completely gluten-free, no gluten-free products either. I only have a single copy and I do not need the aspirin but I can't have folic acid either. I also threw out all the toxins in our house. Went on b-12 and methylfolate. Within two months we were expecting! I did also take progesterone and vitamin E for the first trimester. We are expecting our sweet baby boy April 4th!! I have been telling everyone who is having issues getting pregnant to check into this it is a life overhaul but so worth it! Thank you for sharing this with your readers. Praying for you!!!

  27. Erica says:

I was diagnosed with MTHFR last summer after yearsssss of infertility treatments and pregnancy loss… But that diagnosis have me so much hope! After 3 months of being on the Thorne Prenatal + an extra methylfolate (broken down folic acid) and b12 — WE GOT PREGNANT ON OUR OWN!!! And am now 22 weeks with a healthy baby!

  28. Sara Shinn says:

I was also diagnosed with MTHFR. I was on baby aspirin, extra folic acid and progesterone. I delivered a beautiful baby boy in 2010 after years of heart aches and loss. We tried again in 2012 and were blessed with our sweet Ryder. Ryder ended up coming too early at 24 weeks 5 days and was with us for 19 amazing days. I am still struggling with why things like that happen. We were blessed with a baby girl, Mia, through adoption in 2014. I still feel the pull to have another baby and we have not stopped trying. Time will tell I guess. It is definitely a journey and thank you for sharing yours. It takes an enormous amount of strength and courage to speak out…Thank you 🙂

    Hi Casey –
I don't think we ever met, but I also went to Baylor (and we likely have a million mutual friends). After my sister experienced several miscarriages, she was diagnosed with heterozygous C677t. I was 17 weeks pregnant at the time, so my dr was proactive and tested me – I am homozygous A2198c (like you) and I started taking Lovenox shots. My first pregnancy went off without a hitch, but since then I've had 3 losses in a row. It's really hard looking for answers at this point and I've had to be really aggressive with my doctors – I even had to fire one. My doctor now has me on MTHF-5, baby aspirin & progesterone. I'm now just barely 4 weeks pregnant. Fingers crossed this will be the one that sticks. My daily verse this morning gave me a real sense of peace (and maybe it will for you too):

Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.
    –Psalm 27:14, NLT

  30. I too have two copies of MTHFR and was on progesterone suppositories, folic acid and baby aspirin. For some reason the progesterone made me spot daily(which was scary to see every day) but everything was always fine and my daughter is 6 yrs old now. I just wanted to mention just in case any ladies experience spotting as well while taking the progesterone. It went away as soon as I stopped – which was around 14 wks if I remember correctly. I now take Glycogenics daily:

    http://www.metagenics.com/mp/products/glycogenics

  31. I tried for 2.5 years with fertility doctors to have a baby. First pregnancy was natural but we lost it. Moved on to IUI and on the third try we lost him (had genetic testing done so I did happen to find out gender). Eventually after procedures, blood tests and the whole works (as I'm sure you've experienced), I found out I had a pituitary tumor which caused my prolactin level to be too high. That can cause infertility and miscarriages. Thankfully in my situation taking a daily pill shrunk the tumor and my levels went down and I went on to have my only child, my daughter Fiona. Just wanted to mention my situation as well so that if anyone else is having trouble, please have your prolactin level checked. It was such an easy fix and I could've saved myself some time and some heartache had I been tested sooner.

I will say a prayer for your pregnancy. The always being worried feeling is horrible! Sending you good thoughts and positive vibes! Thanks so much for sharing your story. You're helping people more than you know.

On a side note, I won a gift certificate for a photo book from you some time ago. I was able to get a very nice wedding album due to your giveaway. Was out of my price range and would've never made that splurge. I think of you every time I see it and am so grateful for it!

    Hugs!

  32. Casey, I know I have not seen you since our Kanakuk days but I have somewhat followed your story through FB and your blog. A year ago from this past Sunday, we lost our first baby at 12 weeks and then had 2 chemical pregnancies immediately following. Progesterone ended up being a great help for me.

Like you, I wouldn't have picked this path – but I do believe God planned each step of the journey and will tell His story through it. We miss our first child but now will welcome another baby in 2 weeks. Thankful for God's redemption.

I have been lucky (so far) to get pregnant easily, just not stay pregnant easily – but I think this process has opened my eyes to all sorts of struggles people face when trying to have families – infertility, miscarriages, bedrest and illness, long expensive adoption processes, the heartache of fostering and losing the child, even singleness when you long for a husband and family. We picture marriage and babies to be such an easy goal to achieve – but the truth is, having a family can be a hard thing and each step takes trust and courage and prayer for many couples.

Thanks for sharing your story – over the past year, I, too, have been sharing pieces of mine and pray that God will use it as He sees fit. I will be praying for a healthy pregnancy, healthy baby and healthy mom!

  33. Jennifer says:

Craziest thing ever-we've recently moved back to the area and I found Dr Rodney when I was searching for a chiropractor. He mentioned he thinks our son has MTFHR we haven't done any genetic testing yet, but obviously one of us would have it too if that's the case. Anyway, I am really encouraged by your recommendation of him and obviously his familiarity with MTFHR. Thanks for being willing to share!

  34. Janet James says:

Meredith and I have both found out that we have versions of this (she has double C677T and I have one of each C677t and A1298C) within the past two weeks! So glad this is getting attention because I had to beg my doctor to test me even after Meredith was positive for it. I'm now in the process of trying to figure out exactly what I should be doing and may be firing my doctor in the process. I wish more people knew about this and more doctors were proactive in testing for it. My doctor totally blew it off and said it had nothing to do with my issues (secondary infertility/endometriosis). I'm not looking at this as a fix-all for me, but glad to know what my body actually needs! Praying for a healthy pregnancy for you!

Casey, I have been following your blog for awhile now and am such a fan of your honesty and love for God. Thank you for sharing and being so open and vulnerable. I don't think you realize the impact your blog has on others. I pray for you and your family and for your little one growing in your belly. It is in His hands as you said. Please continue to share your story. You are a beautiful soul.

  36. Kellie says:

I've read a lot of your posts on loss and first I want to say I am so sorry you have suffered so much. My story is a little different. I haven't had any miscarriages, but I have lost a child. My daughter died when she was born because of a fatal neural tube defect. We found out at our 18 week ultrasound that she would not live. I carried her for 42 weeks. I share this because NTDs are also related to folic acid and I also have MTHFR (one copy of each). It's crazy to me that anyone has to suffer any losses, especially if a simple test can help detect how your body processes folic acid, which is so important for pregnancy. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I am praying for you and baby. I would also be interested in learning what line of methylfolate your doctor has recommended. I've tried a few different brands and have recently had success with Thorne Basic Methylguard Plus.

  37. LaurelWest says:

Hi from a fellow Baby Stepper! 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing this! I read this post originally between my lab work for MTHFR and receiving my results. I'm a heterozygous single copy A1298C. Reading your post is encouraging to me – both your perspective and simply knowing that I'm not alone. After a host of dull, persistent issues and an unexplained miscarriage, I'm both relieve to just have an answer and filled with so many questions! What a pure relief to have our Heavenly Father to carry us through!

  38. Secora says:

    Casey,
I have followed your blog for several years now and am so encouraged for the many women out there who read it. Your pure honesty and trust in Jesus glorifies God in such a humble and beautiful way.

My husband and I have traveled a path of still birth and pregnancy loss, and for whatever reason, this is our story. My journey on this road started 10 1/2 yrs ago and I felt so alone and ashamed. Since then, my ministry turned into one that walks alongside some amazing women who, sadly, found themselves on a similar road….I don't know why God chose me to walk this path, but I do know He calls us to carry each other's burdens. I would not know how to cry with these women, how to sit quietly with them, how to laugh with them, or how to pray for them if I did not have personal heartfelt knowledge of their path, so for that, I am thankful. I know, while God did not cause our losses, He has surely blessed us in immeasurable ways through it.

I know your words and your story are encouraging and will encourage women who think they are alone out there. Those who may not know where to turn or who they can trust with their truth. You bless my socks off seeing you turn all these precious hurting mommas to the One who can bring joy back into their lives as they process and take steps forward.

I pray for you, and your family, that you would feel peace of heart and mind for these next few seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, etc. For fears to be diminished and strength to be renewed.

  39. So happy for you Casey! the universe is with you and your sweet baby … i send you so good vibes from the other size of the ocean! you are an inspiration <3 thank you for sharing your story

  40. I'm a functional medicine practitioner (in Austin, hi neighbor!) and I couldn't agree more. Methylation defects are a huge implicating factor in complications with our sweet little ones. And our status when pregnant continues to effect our kids well into their lives. I've been holding back telling you about the beauty and healing of functional medicine. Maybe I shouldn't have. Prayers for you and your little mama.

  41. I didn't find out that I am compound heterozygous (1of each) until age 48, after having all my children….and while I did have five miscarriages, I also had eight beautiful children! Their ages are now 26, 24, 20, 17, 14, 11, 9, and 6. I had the first four pregnancies without any trouble at all, so may have never realized I had an issue if I hadn't been open to having more. Thankfully, even though my doctor never considered testing me back then, I realized on my own the need for natural progesterone, and that is why I have my four youngest children.

The hard part now is that I can't afford testing for all my kids, but we do have anxiety issues that I believe stem from MTHFR. It has been quite a learning process this past year as I've dealt with this and other health issues. My doctors, including the functional medicine doctor I saw, haven't understood this at all.

  42. Casey, I've had 3 miscarriages in the past year. I finally got tested and have 1 copy of the MTHFR 1289 mutation. I'm curious what prenatal or supplements you found. I was prescribed Folgard but I'm looking into the methylfolate & folate vs. the folic acid (Folgard)

    • CaseyWiegand says:

in soo so so sorry for your losses, after I went through all of the genetic testing my Holistic doc said the prenatal with the folate ( i believe that is similar or the same as folgard) wouldn't be enough for me- i have some links in the above comments to what he prescribed. praying for you friend

  43. Casey, I'm curious what methylfolate/folate and or prenatal you found. I have miscarried 3x in the past year. I was just tested last week & found I have MTHFR 1 copy A1289. I was prescribed Folgard. But I haven't filled it. Im trying to research the folic acid (Folgard) vs the methylfolate or folate options. I find so much conflicting information. Is there a specific product that your Dr. recommended?

  44. SarahV says:

Same story as my best friend. It should be tested more often. Blessings.

  45. Tasha says:

    Hi Casey,
I found your article on my chiro's Facebook page. What a small world! I had a few questions for you about your testing that I wanted to ask privately. Can you email me?
PS congrats on your pregnancy. I remember you sharing about your first loss at Hope Spoke in 2014. I cried many tears for you and your family.
    Tasha

  46. a Waldon says:

I too have MTHFR & had two losses in a row. after my 2nd loss, I was tested & they found the mutation. I can totally relate to you when you say you saw other people's pregnancies, births, & babies come to fruition. I was pregnant (w/ my 2nd) within one week from my best friend- & when I lost my baby & she didn't, it was so heavy for my heart. but you know what? the Lord is so good & He protected me & carried me thru that time. He gave me a peace that we know only comes from Him. & now when I look at her perfect 8 month baby boy, I can be so happy for her. & that is not bc of me or my heart- but what the Lord has done in me. Today I am a little over 14 weeks with a perfect baby boy. (PRAISE JESUS!) & I'm so thankful for my journey this far. my doc has me on a special dose of folic acid, baby aspirin & progesterone- this pregnancy is so sacred to me & I am still in shock that the Lord has trusted me with this precious love. it's so encouraging to know others have this weird mutation as well. thank you for sharing!!

  47. I have a dear friend who had a healthy pregnancy and delivery, an early loss, then another healthy pregnancy and delivery, and then 3 losses in a row – all of which were at least 8 weeks along. One of the babies did have excess fluid if I remember correctly. Testing was done on the last babe, and the baby was fine. My friend has struggled so very much with this. I sent her this link in hopes that it will inspire her. She is praying right now about the possibility of seeing a reproductive specialist. She is full of faith, praise God, and I know that she trusts Him to lead her down the right path.
I myself got pregnant right away, and then lost it to an ectopic pregnancy and had to have part of a fallopian tube removed. The drs felt sure that I would once again, get pregnant with ease. But, it wasn't so. Three years later, testing revealed that I have low AMH, which plays a major role in maturation of eggs. With hormone shots and our 3rd IUI, we were successful. I will be 31 weeks tomorrow. I am still in absolute shock. It seemed so impossible for so, so long.
I want to thank you for sharing your story. There are so many women who are lost and without hope – especially those who are trusting drs who are telling them that they either cannot have children, or that they need to "just stop stressing and it will happen". How encouraging to know that sometimes there are simply answers that need to be sought out.
Congratulations on this pregnancy! I pray that all goes well. I find your blog to be very inspiring and you can feel the love you have for your children, your husband, and your roles as mother and wife and follower of Christ. I look forward to precious snuggles with my babe and documenting the beauty of everyday through pictures.
    Thanks again and God bless.

  48. So happy for you and your answers, and the fact that you are putting it here for other women to read is the best! I have been blessed to have my five beautiful babes but the journey was a trying one also. I had 6 miscarriages over a period of time and finally before I got pregnant with my youngest they tested me and it came back that I have thrombophilia, a clotting disorder. Thank god for doctors that care! I was put on baby aslirin and lovenox shots until i was about 6 mths prego with her, I delivered my beautiful girl healthy and strong in 2012 and she has 4 big brothers as well. I will pray for your health and strength mama xo

  49. I too have MTHFR.. and discovered it when I began having migraines in my early 20's pre-marriage, pre-kids. It is way more common then one would think. Luckily I have the 'better' of the combination of the A&C strands, and was just taking extra folic acid when I became pregnant. I've had 2 healthy pregnancies and thank god for that. It's amazing that OB's don't test for this right away, especially for someone who has had multiple miscarries. 10 years ago, there wasn't much I could find online about MTHFR, or read stories of people who have it. So I applaud you for sharing! Best to you and your beautiful family!

Thank you for sharing your story. I am pregnant with my 2nd rainbow baby and am taking baby aspirin with a prenatal with folate. If you don't mind, Did you take Lovenox? My dr wants me to take it but I've had a c-section with my son and have been reading up on complication bc of the lovenox.
